Build global scale software. Build a truly special company.

Our mission

Cloudsmith is scaling up and on a mission to control and secure the software supply chain. We’re building a category-defining product, and an incredible company

Who we are

We're born and bred in Belfast, Northern Ireland. From right here in Belfast, we’re building massive-scale software that changes how teams work in large enterprises around the world. We're well-funded, and growing quickly.

Our mission

Software today is assembled from pre-existing artifacts, and largely AI agents do most of the work. Cloudsmith gives developers and their AI agents a single source of truth for everything that goes into their software. We're an indispensable component of the AI-driven software development lifecycle.

How you can help

Can you push what the cloud can do at scale? We need the best - people who can define the future of software development, and shape what we think will be a multi-billion dollar company. We're just getting started. It's all to play for. And it’s right here in Belfast.

Our journey

The Cloudsmith story

A long long time ago but officially 2016

Company founded

Cloudsmith began with Alan Carson and Lee Skillen, who wanted to make software artifact distribution simpler, safer and more reliable - and cloud-native. They couldn’t find anything quite right on the market, so they decided to build something better. From this modest idea, the foundation of Cloudsmith emerged. They wrote up the Tao of Cloudsmith, and launched a company.

Seed funding secured

Our first major investment came from Frontline Ventures, MMC Ventures and Techstart Ventures. Their backing helped Alan, Lee and the growing team turn Cloudsmith’s vision into reality, investing in product development and bringing our technology to market. It was an important first step in building a global software company from Northern Ireland.

A few times per year we come together to recall, refine, and re-commit to the company’s mission. Cloudsmith’s big picture is to be the world’s software supply chain. This provides customers with control, security, and distribution of binary software artifacts. We do this by building the best enterprise-grade artifact management platform.

We love to take the time to celebrate our customers and partners, as well as the achievements of Cloudsmithers, who are both experts and craftspeople.

Becoming the system of record for software

AI is accelerating how software gets assembled. Supply chain attacks are growing in frequency and severity. Control over the artifacts you actually ship is now the critical control point. These factors are turbocharging our relevance. We're growing and hiring. Come help us build Cloudsmith.

Our values

The Tao of Cloudsmith

Our values guide how we think, collaborate, and make decisions every day. Explore the principles that define who Cloudsmith is, how we work together, and what it means to be part of a team building something special.

Tao of Cloudsmith

Honesty and Transparency

Hide nothing, then there is nothing to hide

Openness and honesty are fundamental to building trust with customers and within the team. Cloudsmith aims to communicate clearly about what is happening and keep people informed rather than obscuring information behind selective statistics or messaging.

Automate Everything

If it can be automated, it should be automated

Manual, repetitive tasks should be automated wherever possible, written once and versioned, atomic, and reliably repeatable. Automation lets Cloudsmith scale beyond human capacity, reduce errors, and move faster.

Cloud Capabilities

Be elastic; leverage the capability of the cloud

The elasticity, flexibility, and scalability of the cloud make it possible to deliver a service beyond what traditional infrastructure allows. Designing for the cloud from day one lets Cloudsmith exploit its advantages and help customers do the same.

Collective Ownership

Everything is permitted, nothing is exclusive

Responsibility and ownership are shared equally across the team, with no concept of sole ownership. Anyone can change any part of the product for the greater good, backed by peer review, continuous integration, testing, and customer feedback.

Customer Collaboration

Give customers a voice and make sure we listen

Involving customers early and often ensures Cloudsmith builds the right software. Giving them an active voice in product direction limits scope creep and makes sure features do what they say on the tin, and do it well.

Just Better

Better trained, better equipped, better … just better!

Borrowed from Red Dwarf, this principle is born of aspiration, not arrogance. Everything can be improved, good enough is never simply good enough, and there is no best, just better.

Sustainable Pace

A sustainable pace establishes a sustainable service

People do their best, most creative work when fully rested. Better planning, practices, and testing minimize overtime culture, so no one is asked to work more than required or treated as a disposable resource.

Pragmatic Programming

Perfection is the enemy of good; practicality first, perfection later

Every problem is approached with a practical mindset while still caring deeply about craftsmanship. Cloudsmith keeps learning new techniques and tools, values admitting when it is wrong, and takes customer happiness seriously.
