# Careers at Cloudsmith

## **Build global scale software.** Build a truly special company.

[View open positions](#open-roles)

Our mission

## Cloudsmith is scaling up and on a mission to control and secure the software supply chain. We’re building a category-defining product, and an incredible company

### Who we are

We're born and bred in Belfast, Northern Ireland. From right here in Belfast, we’re building massive-scale software that changes how teams work in large enterprises around the world. We're well-funded, and growing quickly.

### Our mission

Software today is assembled from pre-existing artifacts, and largely AI agents do most of the work. Cloudsmith gives developers and their AI agents a single source of truth for everything that goes into their software. We're an indispensable component of the AI-driven software development lifecycle.

### How you can help

Can you push what the cloud can do at scale? We need the best - people who can define the future of software development, and shape what we think will be a multi-billion dollar company. We're just getting started. It's all to play for. And it’s right here in Belfast.

Our journey

## The Cloudsmith story

### 2016

2016

#### Where the journey started

Two founders, one big ambition

Cloudsmith began with Alan and Lee, who shared a vision of making software distribution simpler, safer and more reliable. They saw an opportunity to solve a growing challenge for software teams and build something better.

What started as an idea became the foundation of Cloudsmith, driven by curiosity, determination and a belief in what was possible. Their founding vision continues to shape who we are, the Tao of Cloudsmith, and where we’re going next.

2018

#### Joining the Ignite Accelerator

Turning an idea into a business

Joining the Ignite Accelerator marked an important step in our journey. It gave us the opportunity to develop our vision, challenge our assumptions and begin turning an ambitious idea into a business with real potential.

It was an early lesson in what it takes to build a company: curiosity, resilience and a willingness to learn quickly. These qualities helped establish the culture we continue to build on today.

### 2019

January 2019

#### $3m seed investment

Investing in our vision

Our first major investment came from Frontline Ventures, MMC Ventures and Techstart Ventures. Their backing helped Alan, Lee and the growing team turn Cloudsmith’s vision into reality, investing in product development and bringing our technology to market. It was an important first step in building a global software company from Northern Ireland.

March 2019

#### Ready for enterprise

Building for the world’s most demanding teams

As our ambitions grew, we focused on making Cloudsmith ready for the needs of enterprise customers. That meant developing a platform that organisations could rely on as their software operations became more complex and their security requirements more demanding.

This stage challenged us to think bigger, build stronger foundations and raise our standards. It helped shape Cloudsmith into a platform designed to support organisations at scale.

### 2021

August 2021

#### Moving into a new office

Building a home for our growing team

As Cloudsmith grew, so did our ambitions. Moving into the Scottish Provident Building in the heart of Belfast was a milestone that reflected how far we’d come, bringing our growing team into a space that matched our momentum.

It marked a new chapter for Cloudsmith, strengthening our roots in Belfast while laying the foundations for everything still to come.

August 2021

#### Support from Invest NI

Growing from Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland has been an important part of Cloudsmith’s story from the beginning. Support from Invest Northern Ireland helped us to continue developing our business, strengthening our capabilities and pursuing opportunities in international markets.

Our roots remain an important part of who we are. We are proud to be building a global technology company from Northern Ireland, contributing to its growing technology community while serving customers around the world.

September 2021

#### $15m Series A

Accelerating our growth

Led by Tiger Global, our Series A brought investment from Shasta Ventures, Sorenson Capital, Amaranthine, Leadout Capital, Scott Johnston, and Sarah Friar, alongside existing investors Frontline Ventures, MMC Ventures and Techstart Ventures. Support from experienced technology leaders and investors gave us the resources to grow our team, develop our platform and expand internationally.

#### Welcoming PagerDuty

PagerDuty eliminates downtime with Cloudsmith

PagerDuty is a global leader in digital operations management, enabling customers to achieve operational efficiency at scale with the PagerDuty Operations Cloud. The platform revolutionizes how companies run their digital offerings by bringing issues and opportunities to light and automatically rallying the right people to respond. By blending AI with human intelligence, it’s helping more than 27K clients to bolster operational excellence across business-critical work like incident management and customer support through the proactive prevention of problems, resolving critical incidents faster, and building resilience.

Welcoming PagerDuty to Cloudsmith was a powerful validation of our platform from an organisation whose reputation is built on uptime and incident management. PagerDuty chose Cloudsmith to restore pipeline stability, eliminate recurring outages, and lay the secure compliance foundations needed for FedRAMP. Partnering with their team proved that Cloudsmith could deliver the cloud-native speed, zero-downtime resilience, and true engineering collaboration that the world’s SaaS leaders rely on.

#### Welcoming Kong

Kong keeps the Internet connected with Cloudsmith distribution

Kong is a full lifecycle API management company that’s become the backbone of cloud connectivity for some of the world’s biggest brands. Trusted by companies like PayPal, GSK, NASDAQ, and Wayfair to connect their software and services to people online, Kong’s suite of products are indispensable in their clients’ transitions from monolithic applications to distributed, cloud-native microservices architectures.

Welcoming Kong proved Cloudsmith could shoulder the immense responsibility of keeping critical internet infrastructure running. With their software powering connectivity for global giants, any distribution delay could mean millions lost for downstream customers. By replacing a brittle, self-hosted Pulp setup with Cloudsmith's fully managed platform, Kong eliminated multi-day downtime, unlocked six-figure operational savings, and achieved zero outages, proving that when modern engineering teams need an effortless distribution platform at global scale, Cloudsmith delivers.

They provide data and software that helps contractors and manufacturers find, bid, and win the right projects, and support one of the largest networks of contractors and manufacturers.

When ConstructConnect chose to migrate to Cloudsmith, their engineering teams were battling runaway infrastructure fees, fragmented repositories, and mounting operational overhead. Partnering with their team proved how Cloudsmith could empower large enterprise organisations to replace hidden costs and legacy friction with a truly cloud-native platform, unifying multi-format packages, automating policy enforcement, and moving within reach of zero high or critical vulnerabilities across their supply chain.

#### Scaling for Enterprise Performance

Strengthening our foundations, powering enterprise scale

As enterprise customers placed increasingly intense, high-throughput demands on our infrastructure, ensuring reliability at peak load became non-negotiable. We validated that Cloudsmith could handle up to 1 million requests per minute, proving that Cloudsmith could scale seamlessly and efficiently under real-world pressure, without compromising speed or stability.

It was about more than raw performance metrics. Delivering this level of elasticity gave our largest customers confidence in our architecture, laying a strong foundation for our next phase of rapid growth into 2025 and beyond.

#### Alan joins Software NI's Board of Directors

Strengthening our roots and supporting the community

As Cloudsmith grew, so did our responsibility to give back to the tech community that helped build us. Alan joining the Software NI Industry Board was a natural step in bringing our team’s experiences to the table and helping shape the future of Northern Ireland's software sector. It’s an opportunity to mentor local founders, advocate for early-stage investment, and help regional software businesses scale globally just as we did.

### 2026

APRIL 2026

#### Record breaking $72m Series C

Making history, building the future

With this backing, we’re accelerating product development, expanding our global reach and building the foundations for our next phase of growth. ### What's Next

2027 and beyond

#### What's next for Cloudsmith

Bigger ambitions, bigger opportunities

We’re continuing to grow, with our sights set on becoming a leader in the software supply chain market. As we expand our team, technology and global reach, we’re looking for the best people to join our team.

We’ve come a long way, but we’re only getting started. The next chapter is about thinking bigger, moving faster and bringing the right people together to help shape the future of Cloudsmith.

Our values

## The Tao of Cloudsmith

Our values guide how we think, collaborate, and make decisions every day. Explore the principles that define who Cloudsmith is, how we work together, and what it means to be part of a team building something special.

## Tao of Cloudsmith

### Honesty and Transparency

*Hide nothing, then there is nothing to hide*

Openness and honesty are fundamental to building trust with customers and within the team. Cloudsmith aims to communicate clearly about what is happening and keep people informed rather than obscuring information behind selective statistics or messaging.

### Automate Everything

*If it can be automated, it should be automated*

Manual, repetitive tasks should be automated wherever possible, written once and versioned, atomic, and reliably repeatable. Automation lets Cloudsmith scale beyond human capacity, reduce errors, and move faster.

### Cloud Capabilities

*Be elastic; leverage the capability of the cloud*

The elasticity, flexibility, and scalability of the cloud make it possible to deliver a service beyond what traditional infrastructure allows. Designing for the cloud from day one lets Cloudsmith exploit its advantages and help customers do the same.

### Collective Ownership

*Everything is permitted, nothing is exclusive*

Responsibility and ownership are shared equally across the team, with no concept of sole ownership. Anyone can change any part of the product for the greater good, backed by peer review, continuous integration, testing, and customer feedback.

### Customer Collaboration

*Give customers a voice and make sure we listen*

Involving customers early and often ensures Cloudsmith builds the right software. Giving them an active voice in product direction limits scope creep and makes sure features do what they say on the tin, and do it well.

### Just Better

*Better trained, better equipped, better … just better!*

Borrowed from Red Dwarf, this principle is born of aspiration, not arrogance. Everything can be improved, good enough is never simply good enough, and there is no best, just better.

### Sustainable Pace

*A sustainable pace establishes a sustainable service*

People do their best, most creative work when fully rested. Better planning, practices, and testing minimize overtime culture, so no one is asked to work more than required or treated as a disposable resource.

### Pragmatic Programming

*Perfection is the enemy of good; practicality first, perfection later*

Every problem is approached with a practical mindset while still caring deeply about craftsmanship. Cloudsmith keeps learning new techniques and tools, values admitting when it is wrong, and takes customer happiness seriously.
